USITT Member Authors to Sign Books in Salt Lake
Each year, new books by Institute members who have published in the previous year are featured at the USITT bookstore at the Annual Conference & Stage Expo – and by holding book-signings at the show.
This year, to make things more exciting, USITT is combining book-signings by several authors at a time, allowing fans to get several books signed at once, and lending a more festive atmosphere to these literary events.
On Thursday, Crystal Herman, costumer and millinery expert will be signing her book Period Reproduction Buckram Hats – The Costumer’s Guide from the FocalPress Costume Topics Series.
She will be joined by Jeromy Hopgood, associate professor of entertainment design and technology at Eastern Michigan University, and his beautiful Dance Production- Design & Technology book; stage make-up artist Sharon Sobel and her new book Theatrical Makeup, an aid to performers who apply their own make-up; and renowned U.K. costumer Mandy Barrington and her book Stays & Corsets – Historical Patterns Translated for the Modern Body.
On Friday, the book-signings feature more technical books: rigging expert Delbert Hall’s The Arena Rigger’s Handbook; technical director and USITT Board Member Verda Beth Martell and physicist Eric Martell’s much-anticipated The Physics of Theatre; and USITT President Mark Shanda’s Technical Management for the Performing Arts.
On Saturday, Q2Q Comics artist Steve Younkins will unveil his first book of comics. (Find more on Steve in this issue of Sightlines).
