Ohio Valley: Fall Conference Set for Sept. 14

The Ohio Valley Regional Section will hold its Fall Conference September 14 at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio.

The event will include a membership meeting and sessions in international theatre festivals, increasing high school involvement in USITT, lighting and the iPad, 24-hour theatre, and cutting machines for crafts.

The works of regional members will also be presented in the annual annual Ezekiel Awards & Design Expo. Those who wish to participate can find information here.

Northern Boundary: Regional Conference Presents Varied Offerings

Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota, will host the Northern Boundary Regional Section's Fall Conference Friday, September 13. Conference events will be held in the Fine Arts building.

Events will include Cover the Walls and Tech Solutions Expo, section membership meeting, show and tell session, Social Media/Theatre Marketing, Media Design for Live Performance, What's Next? forum, Rigging Inspection and Safety, and When is too much too much? – Stay Healthy!

The Student Scholarship winners for the national 2013 Conference & Stage Expo will be announced.

Upstate NY: Fall Focus -- ETC ION Training

USITT Upstate New York will hold its Fall 2013 Workshop Day and Meeting on Saturday, September 7, at Nazareth College in Rochester. A highlight of the day will be training on ETC's ION lighting console, both intermediate and advanced.

Registration will be 9 to 10 a.m., with coffee and doughnuts welcome at 10. The morning workshops will be ION Intermediate Training with Ellen White of ETC or Resume Formatting & Interview Dos & Don'ts (Bring a resume!). Section meeting and lunch will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., with lunch provided by event sponsor Applied Audio & Theatre Supply.

Afternoon sessions are Scene Painting with Allen Wright Shannon or Advanced ION Training with Ms. White.

Southeast: USITT Plans Fall Master Classes

USITT's Southeast Regional Section will hold its two-day session of Fall Master Classes Friday and Saturday, September 13-14, at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

This year's session theme is "Hands-on Art" – encouraging members to immerse themselves and actively create theatrical art.

Workshops and classes include: Drapery and Swag—Working with fabric with Howard Jones and Eduardo Sicangco; Metal Shop Operations—Working with metals with John H. Miller;

CNC Operations—Plasma and Router operations with Zak Stevenson; 3D Printing—Effective use of a 3d printer with John Coyne; Blacksmithing—Forge and blacksmithing work with Bland Wade; Silicone Prosthetics for Theatrical Application with Michael Meyer. Setting up a cue light console for the Stage Manager with Frank Lombardi; My Life in One Page—Resumes and Cover Letters with Jamie Call-Blankinship and Pamela Knourek; and a Costume Rendering and a Costume Crafts session with Bill Brewer.

Midwest: Seek Entries for Student Design Competition

The Midwest Regional Section will again conduct its Student Digital Design Competition. Completed entries are due November 1 with the winners announced by December 1.

Students may submit entries for either "paper projects" of shows from the 2013 or 2014 ACTF Region III Regional Design Project plays or realized 2013 productions from their school. The winners receive a free registration for the 2014 Conference & Stage Expo in Ft. Worth, Texas. Students should indicate their intent to enter by e-mailing Shane Kelly, Chair of Midwest Regional Section at skelly19@depaul.edu.
