Southeast: We're Going to Disney World!

The Southeast Regional Section announced it is going to Disney World.

That’s right, the Fall 2012 Master Classes will be hosted by Walt Disney World on September 27 to 29 at the Contemporary Resort and other locations at the WDW Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Sessions will cover the Disney production process; behind the scenes with Cirque du Soleil La Nouba; backstage of IllumniNations; Disney Animatronics, and many others. The keynote speaker will be Gene Columbus, who spent 38 years with Walt Disney, producing, staffing and casting many of the productions at the various parks. Check the USITT SE website for registration and lodging information. Register and reserve a hotel room early since there will be a limited number of rooms available at the Contemporary Resort at a reduced rate, subsidized by the Southeast Section. All members of USITT are invited to attend this exciting opportunity, especially members in the Southeast.

Northern Boundary: Plan Fall Conference

The Northern Boundary Regional Section will hold its Annual Fall Conference September 7 and 8 at the University of Minnesota-Duluth Marshal Performing Arts Center.

The event will include a Cover the Walls Design Exhibit and workshop sessions on costuming, Photoshop, make-up, scenic art, Google Sketchup, and theatre architecture and renovation.

Heart of America: Master Class in Wichita

The Heart of America Regional Section is planning a Master Class and Workshops to be hosted by Wichita State University September 7 to 9.

Featured presenter will be Michael Downs of Downsart.net, a career experiential, production scenic designer/creative director/art director. He has over 625 productions to his credit in 40 countries, and spanning five continents, 49 of the United States, and 32 of his 49 years. His creative concepts, art direction, and design talent have touched virtually every communications channel that requires environments.

Also being planned is a tour of the Wichita Masonic Temple, a wonderful example of early 20th century scenic art. Other workshops and presentations are being planned to round out the weekend.

Upstate New York: Upstate Fall Meeting

The Upstate New York Regional Section will hold a day-long meeting on Saturday, September 8 at Nazareth College Arts Center. The day will start with a meet and greet, and include sessions from technical theatre workshops and a chance to view the renovated Arts Center facilities.
