Paul Vincent Named USITT Fellow in Long Beach

Remarks by Richard Arnold
Professor Emeritus, Nothern Illinois University

Upon graduation with a master's degree in lighting design from the University of Cincinnati, Paul Vincent entered the fields of theatre, television, and architectural lighting as a representative for lighting equipment manufacturers. In the early 1970's, he became the convention manager for Kliegl Brothers. Later, he served as Midwest Sales Manager for Colortran and then Eastern Operations for Strand Lighting. In 1978, he founded his own company (Paul Vincent Associates).

Over the years his company has been a significant supplier of lighting sales, rentals, and service from three offices: Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh, with a fourth office joint venture with Grand Stage Company in Michigan.

In service to his profession, Paul has been a major leader, including President, of Entertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA), a professional trade organization (formerly the Theatrical Dealers Association). He currently serves as chair of the ESTA Technical Standards Committee. With his considerable efforts, ESTA has become a valuable asset to the field by making enormous strides in research and publication in the development of codes, standards, safety requirements, and other improvements in the industry.

As convention manager for Kliegl Brothers, Paul was an early contributor to USITT and conference programming. A member since 1974, he helped form the Ohio Section of the Institute and served as Section Chair from 1980 to 1982. He currently serves as Section Membership Chair and strongly supports the many activities of the section.

Vincent Lighting Systems is a Contributing Member of USITT as well as a Sustaining Member of the Ohio Valley Section. He has been a strong advocate to unify the professional/industrial members of the Institute. He has worked to improve the efforts of the manufacturers and dealers in their integrity, standards, and responsibilities to the entertainment industry. Most of all, his leadership in ESTA and USITT has played a major role in developing cooperation and support between the two organizations in the common goal of improving our industry.
