Costume Storage Solutions Database Available

The Costume Storage Solutions Database is open and ready for business! The project, more fully described here in an earlier issue of Sightlines, is an effort to give shop managers access to different ideas for storing costumes for theatrical use. Every effort will be made to get a wide representation of different types of spaces and sizes of facilities so that whatever the budget or space, an inspirational idea will be there to consider.

To access the database, go to icon.dickinson.edu and click on "guest account" On the next screen, click "browse collections" and then choose "costume." As of January 1, ten facilities will be represented with additions made constantly. For an initial viewing, it would probably be best to leave the form blank and click "search" in order to display all images.

Once there are more storage facilities represented, more specific searches will be possible. Hopefully this viewing will inspire Costume Commission members to include other facilities in this database. In order to upload images of any costume storage, e-mail harpermc@dickinson.edu in order to get a login and password to access the system. Also e-mail harpermc@dickinson.edu in order to suggest facilities to be documented as part of this project.

Costume Poster Slots Still Available

The USITT Annual Conference & Stage Expo in Phoenix will soon be here. There are still a few slots available for the Costume Poster Session. This is a great opportunity to share creative ideas with fellow costume commission colleagues, along with being a nice addition to any resume.

Don't forget that a poster counts as a juried presentation. For some it may be an opportunity to receive funding to attend the conference. The deadline for abstracts is January 29. The abstract should be a brief, concise summary of the information to be presented in the poster--no more than 200 words typed. Send the abstract or any questions to: Donna Meester, The University of Alabama, Box 870239, Rowand-Johnson Hall, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0239; phone 205-348-9032; fax 205-348-9048; dmeester@bama.ua.edu.

Glowacki to Provide OSHA Training, Support

This past summer, Dave Glowacki, Vice-Commissioner of Programming for the Health & Safety Commission, was supported with a USITT Commissioner's Fund Grant to complete the required training to become an Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer.

One immediate benefit of this new credential is that USITT is now able to offer a 10-hour OSHA General Industry Outreach Training course as a Professional Development Workshop (PDW) in conjunction with the 2007 Conference & Stage Expo in Phoenix. Participants in the OSHA Outreach PDW will receive an OSHA course completion card. Interested USITT members can find registration information for this PDW on the Conference website. Learn more or sign up here.

A longer-term benefit of the training is that Mr. Glowacki is now qualified as an OSHA Outreach resource for the Institute membership, and USITT members can consult with him regarding OSHA regulations and programs. He also will be available to conduct OSHA Outreach Training for the Regional Sections and other groups (such as a "Traveling Session"). For more information, contact Mr. Glowacki at dglow@hawken.edu.

Election Deadline Now January 9

All USITT members who found themselves without much time during the pre-holiday rush have until January 9, 2007 to return ballots for the USITT 2007 election cycle to the USITT office. Ballots were mailed at the beginning of December, and must be received in the USITT office in Syracuse by the deadline to be counted.

Members were mailed the ballot instructions, ballot, blank white envelope to ensure anonymity, and a postage-paid envelope pre-addressed envelope to assist in returning the completed ballots. After tallying is completed, the election results will be announced in a future issue of Sightlines.
