Upstate NY Kicks Off New Year

Labor Day, Monday, September 5 when classes are suspended and theatres are dark, the Upstate New York Regional Section will meet to ease out of summer and into a new year at a meeting at SUNY-Brockport Tower Fine Arts Center, about 18 miles west of Rochester, New York.

Topics for the meeting are: Student Chapters, Student Involvement, Student Energy; Bridges Among USITT, ACTF, and Professional Theatre; Building Our Base; and Cool Gadgets and Great Tricks.

For those wishing to attend, a donation (not mandatory) of $5 is requested to cover the cost of coffee, tea, and non-caffeine refreshments.

Business and discussion will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pre-meeting refreshments and meet and greet will start at 9 a.m.; Wrap up and post discussion will end at 3 p.m.

Northern Boundary Workshop

North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota will host the Northern Boundary's Fall Workshop September 9 and 10, 2005.

Activities for Friday, September 9 include Cover the Walls set up, a social Grill fest, Dan Keyser discussing the Macbeth project scheduled for the winter workshop, and the Keynote by Miodrag Tabacki followed by bowling.

On Saturday, September 10, topics include Keep It Safe; Connectivity, the Universe, and Everything; Lifecasting for the Makeup Artist (limited space); Marketing Mix Roundtable; Portfolio Review with Miodrag Tabacki; Student Chapter Leadership Meeting, and a Stage Management Roundtable. Chesapeake Section Plans EXPO 2005

The Chesapeake Section will hold its EXPO 2005 on Saturday, September 17 on the campus of Catholic University in Washington, DC.

This year's EXPO promises to be an especially eventful day of workshops on lighting, scene painting, costuming, stage managing, and designing. This year, the Section also will present, for the first time, a set of professional track workshops in conjunction with ESTA. They include daylong, hands-on seminars in rigging and electrical power, and distribution.

On Friday, September 16, Chesapeake Section will present its fourth Theater Symposium, "How a Performing Arts Center Gets Built: Reality from the Contractor's View." Registration and additional information is available at the Section web site www.usittchesapeake.org.

NY Area Slates Tenure, Promotion Event

The New York Area Regional Section will hold a free tenure and promotions workshop September 24th at Pace University.

It will be followed by an undergraduate and graduate theatre college fair. The tenure and promotion workshop will be for those who may need guidance and/or mentoring towards obtaining tenure and promotion.

Schools wishing to participate in the school fair should be New York Area Regional Section members or pay a small fee.

Rocky Mountain Announces Changes

The Rocky Mountain Regional Section recently announced changes to its Executive Committee. Officers are: Section Chair - Jared Grohs, OperaShop; Vice Chair for Programming - Greg Loftus, Metro State College of Denver; Vice Chair for Outreach - Laura Love; Vice Chair for Publications - Ron Gloekler; Secretary - Casey Kearns, University of Wyoming; Treasurer - Jimmie Robinson, Colorado State University; Student Liaison - Jen Orf, Metro State College; and Newsletter Co-Editors - Laura Love and Jen Orf.

Inland Northwest Plans Fall Meeting

Plans are underway for Inland Northwest's Fall Meeting, scheduled for Saturday, October 8 in Seattle, Washington.

The day will start at 10 a.m. with a backstage tour of of ACT Theatre in Seattle. After lunch and a brief business meeting, there will be a new products expo at the new PNTA facility.
