To Offer Portrait Painting Workshop
Ever wondered what techniques to use to create painted portraits for theatre productions? USITT is offering a chance to learn from one of the best.
The Scene Design Commission will offer a professional development workshop for scenic artists focusing on portrait painting at the 2007 Conference & Stage Expo in Phoenix. The day-long session is on Tuesday March 12. Participants will learn how to create a realistic, 4 foot by 6 foot, sepia tone, painted portrait.
The session will be taught by Clare P. Rowe. Ms. Rowe teaches scene painting and rendering at the University of Arizona's School of Theatre Arts. She has extensive experience in trompe l'oeil scene painting, including portraiture, and has an MFA in painting with a concentration in figure painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Ms. Rowe will be assisted by Michelle D. Harvey, a member of the scenic design faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington, and Eugenia Furneaux-Arends, a graduate student of scene design at The University of Arizona School of Theatre Arts.
Cost for the session is $280 for members and will include a set of scenic brushes, donated by Limelight Productions, and a finished sepia tone portrait to take home.
Learn about SFX
Spend Monday, March 12 learning about Advanced SFX -- How to use the more advanced show control tools using Stage Research's SFX Software. The session, which runs from 1 to 11 p.m. to allow those on the East Coast to fly in that morning, is designed for those who have been using SFX software or who has taken the basic class and want to learn how to tie SFX into other systems in a venue.
Cost is $340 for members, and registration may be completed by following this link.
