In Memoriam: Ken Vannice

By: Randy Earle for the Fellows of USITT.

Ken Vannice, Fellow of the Institute, passed away in hospital, Portland, Oregon on Jan. 15 at the age of 74. He was fighting several health challenges which were difficult to overcome. Professionally, Ken was a recognized leader in the lighting industry with past engineering work which contributed to development of the technology we depend on today. His advocacy of National Electrical Code improvements to reflect the needs of the lighting industry, insistence on entertainment technician training certification and work with the technical standards program all reflected a lifetime passion on his part. Ken was a good friend to all, never hesitated to help others with problems, kind and supportive with a full life outside his profession. Trains and square dancing filled what spare time he had in a full and busy life. He is missed by all of us.
