North Carolina HB2

In May of this year, USITT issued a statement indicating that the National Organization would withhold doing business in North Carolina in response to that state’s HB2. The North Carolina Legislature has since amended HB2 restoring the right of citizens to file claims of discrimination in State Court. With these legal rights restored USITT’s position can now change. While the laws in North Carolina may still be considered controversial, the broad range of our membership is once again afforded legal recourse protection. USITT’s overall commitment to diversity and inclusion remains resolute, however we can now acknowledge that the conditions in North Carolina have changed enough to restore our ability to host events and activities in the state as we do in other states. Thank you to our members in North Carolina for bringing this legislative change to our attention.
