John Charles "Jack" Suesse died on August 17, 2007, in South Carolina after a short illness. Mr. Suesse spent all of his adult life working in theatre production and technology. A Carnegie Tech graduate, he started his career as assistant technical director at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, then studio supervisor with WCNY Television and teaching at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York. From there, he became president of Syracuse Scenery & Stage Lighting, general manager of J. R. Clancy, Inc., and later president of J. R. Clancy.
Most recently Mr. Suesse operated J Suesse & Associates in South Carolina, where he was able spend more time with his family and hobbies, like boating and building his second home from scratch.
Mr. Suesse was always eager to share his knowledge with others and was involved in many volunteer activities including USITT where he was elected a Fellow in 1993 for his long time service. He continued to field questions in USITT's popular Stump the Rigger sessions, including the 2007 version in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a member of ESTA where he served as an ETCP subject matter expert, and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Suesse was a long time member of IATSE Local 9.
He is survived by his wife Gwen, and his children, Ned and Jennifer.
