Opportunity for USITT Authors

David Rodger
Editor, TD&T

Books written by USITT members will again be acknowledged and promoted at the upcoming 2007 USITT Conference & Stage Expo in Phoenix. All members with newly published books are invited to participate. The book must have a 2006 copyright date and be available for sale in the United States during 2006.

In Louisville last year, four authors met with colleagues and fans and autographed copies of their books. Linda Sparks discussed both the subject of her book, The Basics of Corset Building, as well as the pros and cons of self-publishing (mostly pros). Rebecca Cunningham promoted her second book, Basic Sewing for Costume Construction: A Handbook. Robert Doyle had copies of his third title, The Art of the Tailor, and Randy Davidson (Dr. Doom), had copies of his long-awaited Practical Health and Safety Guidelines for School Theater Operations: Assessing the Risks in Middle, Junior and Senior High School Theater Buildings and Programs.

The first step to participate in Phoenix is to contact David Rodger as soon as possible at david_rodger@usitt.org or 502-426-1211. USITT will make arrangements to buy copies of the book to have on hand at the book signing event. The event is tentatively scheduled for Thursday afternoon, March 15, 2007.

The deadline for submitting a request to participate is December 15.
