Jon Jory, former Artistic Director for Actors Theatre of Louisville, will be the Keynote speaker when the USITT Annual Conference & Stage Expo opens in Louisville, Kentucky on Wednesday, March 29, 2006.

Mr. Jory will speak at 10 a.m. that day at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in the event which kicks off the 2006 Conference.

Mr. Jory will examine the interaction between designers and artistic directors. In addition to his work with Actors Theatre, he had directed at more than 15 regional theatres, including the American Conservatory Theatre and the Arena Stage. He is a founder of the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut.

Actors Theatre of Louisville, along with Mr. Jory and current Artistic Director Marc Masterson, will receive USITT's Thomas DeGaetani Award for 2006 honoring contributions to the performing arts community in a particular region of the country.

Mr. Jory may also participate in other Conference sessions on Wednesday, March 29, 2006.

Special sessions which highlight performing arts in Louisville include a gallery talk by Paul Owen at Stage Expo on his designs for the Humana Festival of New American Plays. Designing Theatre for Youth will focus on an open discussion including a presentation by artists from Stage One Theatre exploring approaches to designing theatre for young audiences.

The Architecture Commission has scheduled a Tour of Actors Theatre spaces, while the Costume Design & Technology Commission features a session on Jockey Silks and Sports Uniforms, an illustrated history of the jockey silks from Kentucky racetracks such as Churchill Downs and Keenland Race Tracks.

A supersession, with breakouts on various aspects of design and management, will examine the Humana Festival of New American Plays. Participating panelists will be drawn from all areas of Humana's productions for the back to back sessions beginning at noon on Wednesday, March 29.
