Outstanding Theatres Honored with 2006 Awards

USITT will present awards to five outstanding theatres which have been designated as winners in the 2006 Architecture Awards program.

Chosen for Honor Awards were the Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington, D.C. and the California Theatre in San Jose, California.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre

  • Architect: McInturff Architects
  • Theatre Consultant: Theatre Projects Consultants
  • Acoustic Consultant: Acoustic Dimensions

California Theatre

  • Architect: ELS Architecture and Urban Design
  • Theatre Consultant: Auerbach: Pollock: Friedlander
  • Acoustic Consultant: Charles M. Salter Associates, Inc.

Three additional projects will receive Merit Awards from USITT's Architecture Commission. Jazz at Lincoln Center, Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York, New York; Williams College '62 Center for Theatre and Dance in Williamstown, Massachussets; and the KA Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada will be acknowledged.

Williams College '62 Center for Theatre and Dance

KA Theatre

  • Architects of Design: Cirque du Soleil and Mark Fisher
  • Architect of Record: Marnell Corraro Associates

  • Acoustic Consultant: Pelton Marsh Kinsella

The USITT Architecture Awards have been acknowledging excellence in new construction or creative reuse of space for performing arts facility since 1994.

Additoinal coverage of the Architecture Awards will be included in the upcoming Spring issue of TD&T.
